The modern career path with Helen Tupper and Sarah Ellis

There isn’t a one-size fits all career anymore, so there isn’t a one-size fits all learning opportunity – say future of work experts Helen Tupper and Sarah Ellis

In this virtual briefing, Helen Tupper and Sarah Ellis, co-authors of The Squiggly Career speaks with WIRED Editor-in-Chief, Greg Williams to explore the future of work, the importance of matching personal values to modern careers, and navigation through times of uncertainty. Recorded on 26 May, 2020.

Over the last decade, the rise of the gig economy and dramatic development of the startup ecosystem have drastically shifted our concept of a career – moving from the more traditional linear idea of a corporate ladder to a more flexible and fluid journey across roles and industries.

This has meant that we’re seeing a shift in the skill sets, expectations and priorities emerging within this new kind of workforce.

“It’s like a rubber band, all organisations have been stretched in a new or anticipated way,” says Ellis in the discussion. “Everyone won’t go back to the shape they were before, we will all return and be moulded in a new way.”
